This event marks the beginning of the celebration of Bicentennial of Mexico’s Independence and the 100 Anniversary of the Mexican Revolution in Kansas City.

“Este es mi México” is a collection of the children’s artwork from the 2008 edition of the international drawing competition that holds the same name. Every year the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs sponsors this contest for children between 7 and 11 years old. Children work to create pieces of art that express an idyllic Mexico that has been engraved in their memories from their earlier years, their travels to the country and from stories, myths and songs that they have heard. The use of colors, materials, shapes and subjects, express a full range of emotions that show a deep connection to their life.

During the opening reception, the Consul of Mexico will present a diploma to Alexee Schmidt Garcia (11), from Prairie Village, Kansas, whose work was selected among the finalists in the 2009 edition of this contest.
